On July 9, 2023, the Republic of Uzbekistan successfully conducted its anticipated Presidential Elections 2023 as per the scheduled timeline. This significant event followed a constitutional referendum held on April 30, 2023, which had received approval from the Parliament of Uzbekistan on March 15, 2023. The referendum’s main objective was to pave the way for Uzbekistan’s modernization efforts, focusing on the creation of a more inclusive, diverse, and prosperous society for its citizens. The subsequent constitutional amendments have reinforced and fortified the personal, social, political, economic, cultural, and environmental rights of the populace. As a result, presidential elections in 2023 are currently underway.
The Uzbekistan government has invited a number of international observers to monitor the electoral process. Mr. Khalid Taimur Akram, Executive Director, PRCSSF, was also invited as an International Observer for the presidential elections, and he actively participated in this process. He visited various polling stations in different areas of Tashkent and highly appreciated the arrangements made by the Election Commission of Uzbekistan for the successful conduct of elections.
Mr. Khalid Taimur Akram observed that elections are conducted with fairness and transparency while ensuring every essential arrangement has been made. He acknowledged the commendable endeavours undertaken by the Uzbekistan leadership in safeguarding the rights of its citizens.
