Islamabad: Holy Quran Day: Nationwide protest against desecration of Quran in Sweden
On the appeal of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, there was a nationwide protest against the Sweden incident on Friday prayer, in which political and religious parties took out protest rallies together.
It should be remembered that in the joint session of the Parliament, a resolution was passed against the desecration of the Quran in Sweden and by announcing that Friday would be celebrated as ‘Quran Sanctification Day’, people were asked to hold protests and rallies across the country.
Citizens across the country held rallies and expressed their outrage over the incident in Sweden.
Lawyers, religious organizations and civil society protested and on this occasion the protesters said that the desecration of the Quran in Sweden has hurt the feelings of Muslims around the world. On this occasion Miss Uzma Mubarak, Finance Secretary District Bar Association Rawalpindi, member. Executive Azmat Ali Mubarak, ex-executive member of Lahore High Court Bar Association Rawalpindi Tahira Banombarak and other lawyers said that they strongly condemn the incident that happened in Sweden, we demand immediate action against the criminals. Lawyers say that unfortunately this is not the first incident, there have been such heartbreaking incidents before and it has come to light that they strongly condemn the narrative of hatred against Muslims. They demand the government to take full notice of these incidents. They demanded the government to summon the ambassador of Sweden and record a strong protest on behalf of Pakistan. It has mentioned respect and observance of human and fundamental rights without discrimination of language or religion. The right to freedom of expression should be exercised responsibly. Rallies were also held in Lahore where Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ziauddin addressed and said that the ruling alliance had only passed a condemnation resolution in the National Assembly on the incident.
Demanding the government to convene a meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and expel the Swedish ambassador, he asked the protesters to boycott Swedish products.
Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Amir-ul-Azeem, while addressing the protestors, said that a few devilish people enmity and hate Islamic slogans and the Quran, but the Muslim Ummah has maintained a strong relationship with the Quran and the sanctity of the Prophet in all eras.

Rallies were also held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, PTI, Pakistan Muslim League (N), Jamiat Ulema Islam and Jamaat-e-Islami among others protested in Basham, Karura, Alpuri, Puran and Chakesar. The leaders said that desecration of the Holy Quran cannot be tolerated. They said that the main reason for this act was to hurt the sentiments of Muslims around the world. Such incidents are happening continuously in Europe, it is necessary that European countries take measures to prevent these incidents. The countries drew a line between freedom of expression and tampering with the religious beliefs of Muslims and called on the Swedish government to take action against the man accused of burning the Holy Quran last week.

The government of Pakistan was requested to send back the ambassador of Sweden from Pakistan to register a protest over the said incident. Pakistan informed about its reservations on this incident.
