Karachi (Report: Pirbux Noonari) Karachi Caretaker Minister Health, Sindh, Dr. Saad Niaz oversaw the MoU signing between Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) and Shaheed Mohtarmma Benazir Bhutto Medical University.
Vice Chancellor SMBBMU, Larakana, Dr. Nusrat Shah and Professor and Coordinator SIUT, Dr Anwar Naqvi, both signed the MoU.
The MoU stipulates that the parties to this MoU share the common goal of supporting the cause of free and accessible healthcare through this collaboration and are desirous of providing the most advanced and effective quality surgical care to the patients and in the larger public interest.
An under construction Transplant Tower at SMBBMU, Larkana will be handed over to SIUT “as is and where is” basis for a period of 3 years, to be extendable at the option of either party for a further two years from the date of its handing over to SIUT.
It will be the responsibility of SIUT to construct the Transplant Tower according to the specifications of a specialised surgical facility for Robotic Surgery. SIUT will arrange surgical procedures to the urology related patients referred from the Urology Department of SMBBMU Larkana. They will also be responsible to make the payment of all utility bills, operational costs of the surgical complex and related charges, surgical procedures will be managed by SIUTs own resources and skilled surgical staff paramedics and supporting staff will also be provided by SIUT. All Robotic Urologic Surgeries like cystectomy partial nephrectomy, radical prostatectomy, nerve graft to the patients referred by SMBBMU.
The following surgical procedures will be provided by SIUT at the Transplant Tower
Robot assisted simple, radical and partial nephrectomy, robot assisted radical and simple prostatectomy, robot assisted pyeloplasty, pyelolithotomy, ureterolithotomy, marsupialization of renal cyst, radical cystectomy plus intracorporeal ileal conduit, cystolithotomy, partial cystectomy, pelvic mass excision, ureteric reimplant, adrenalectomy, orchidopexy/orchidectomy, nephroureterectomy with cuff of bladder etc
In the view of the rising population and non existence of specialised services of high quality testament for renal diseases by the way of surgery and given the increasing burden of such diseases this MoU has come to pass. Robotic surgery available to the communities at need will allow for more precise & complex surgeries and will deliver the most advance and effective surgical care to the patients and will be one of the very few centres providing such treatment in the region.
